Commonwealth Crier Newsletter
Stay in touch with your fellow superintendents with the quarterly publication, The Commonwealth Crier. Get local association news and timely educational articles from across the state.
The VGCSA hosts two GCSAA-sponsored educational seminars every year in December. Topics range from technical turfgrass subjects to professional development. The VGCSA also keeps you informed on local educational opportunities. VGCSA educational programs earn professional certification credits (PDI).
VGCSA and local association meetings and events provide a good opportunity to meet informally with your professional peers and gather important information. Members share information, solve problems and learn more about the local golf course industry. The value of your dues could easily be realized by networking to identify an inexpensive solution to a problem you are having at your golf course.
Updates from GCSAA
GCSAA update information is provided to the VGCSA membership through The Commonwealth Crier and on our web site. Information about GCSAA’s conference and show, annual election, and upcoming seminars in the region are also highlighted at VGCSA meetings.
The VGCSA hosts an annual tournament that brings members throughout the state together. The VGCSA also notifies members of local association tournaments that benefit everything from charities to turfgrass research.
The VGCSA is pleased to announce a NEW VGCSA website for 2006, which will become THE source for member information. Initially the website will have contact information for the local associations, meeting and event schedules for both VGCSA and local associations, membership forms, weather information, and industry and turfgrass web links. In the future the VGCSA web site will expand to include:
- The Commonwealth Crier in PDF
- An email directory of members
- Employment opportunities
- Equipment for sale
- USGA updates
The VGCSA works with other allied associations to ensure that our voices are heard on issues that affect the golf industry.
Local Association Membership
When you pay dues to the VGCSA you are also paying dues to the local association of your choice (Old Dominion GCSA, Greater Washington GCSA, Tidewater Turfgrass Assn., Virginia Turfgrass Assn. and Shenandoah Valley Turfgrass Assn.) These dues help to fund activities at the local level. You have the option of membership in multiple local associations.
The VGCSA is registered as a "member club" of the Virginia State Golf Association, thus all VGCSA members are also VSGA members. This includes handicapping service, tournament eligibility, a subscription to Virginia Golfer magazine and much more! There is no extra charge for this service. Members may establish their handicapping service by contacting the VSGA at firstname.lastname@example.org.
