PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER - GOLF COURSE is responsible for performing fundamental tasks in maintaining golf course grounds, equipment and facilities. Work assignments and supervision are provided by Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent or Crew Leader. Annual performance goals will be set for the Golf Course Maintenance Worker.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (with illustrative examples of work)

Maintain golf course grounds:
ƒ¬mow grass on greens and tees using specialized mowers and mowing techniques.
ƒ¬mow grass on fairways and roughs using tractors and gang mowers.
ƒ¬trim grass with string trimmer
ƒ¬rake and groom sand bunkers.
ƒ¬apply water to greens, tees and fairways using automated sprinkler system and/or via hand watering.
ƒ¬change cup placement and tee markers to distribute wear more evenly.
ƒ¬verti-cut, aerate, fertilize, seed and top dress greens and tees using specialized equipment and techniques.
ƒ¬site preparation and sodding.
ƒ¬assist in trenching and installing drainage systems.
ƒ¬assist with application of herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and other chemicals.
ƒ¬cut dead and/or damaged trees and saw up logs and limbs using chain saws.
ƒ¬remove leaves and other debris from playing areas.
ƒ¬plant and maintain trees/shrubs and planted beds.
ƒ¬collect and dispose of litter and trash.
Maintain golf course equipment:
ƒ¬perform routine servicing of equipment such as lubricating, changing oil and filters.
ƒ¬sharpen chain saws and mower blades, fuel equipment and otherwise prepare equipment and tools for use.
ƒ¬seasonally repair and/or replace worn equipment parts and thoroughly overhaul and clean all equipment.
ƒ¬assist with winterization of sprinkler system; replace and/or repair worn or damaged parts.
Maintain golf course facilities:
ƒ¬make minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs.
ƒ¬repair and/or assemble benches and fences.
ƒ¬apply paint/stain in both exterior and interior sites.
ƒ¬perform maintenance shop housekeeping duties.
ƒ¬distribute drinking water on golf course and maintain golf ball wash stations.
Perform miscellaneous maintenance tasks:
ƒ¬operate various vehicles which may include dump trucks and trash trucks.
ƒ¬run errands to deliver or pickup materials.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (minimum)

Education: Graduation from high school.
Physical: Manual work with strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks, including lifting, stooping, bending and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions in outdoor and maintenance shop settings; will perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions; lift and move items equal to or greater than 80 pounds; climb ladders; use hand tools and operate mechanical equipment.
Experience: Some experience in golf course maintenance work, and mechanical aptitude, or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience which provides:

ƒ¬Working knowledge of the methods, procedures and materials used in maintenance of golf course grounds and equipment.
ƒ¬Working knowledge of small engine equipment with ability to perform routine servicing and make minor repairs and/or adjustments.
ƒ¬Working knowledge of the safe and proper use of golf course maintenance equipment and tools.
ƒ¬Basic knowledge of chemicals used on golf courses with particular knowledge of safety precautions.
ƒ¬Basic knowledge of the game of golf.
ƒ¬Some knowledge of turf management.
ƒ¬Ability to supervise part-time maintenance staff.
ƒ¬Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
ƒ¬Ability to attend yearly safety training to include agency, local, state and federal regulatory pesticide and fertilizer compliance.
ƒ¬Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain drivers license with safe driving record.
ƒ¬Possession of or ability to obtain special licenses as required, which may include commercial drivers license and state pesticide applicators license.
ƒ¬Availability for call in emergency situations.
ƒ¬Availability to work additional hours during peak operating season including shift work and weekends.
